What Google service is addictive? Aside from ROfree, none. ROfree is a platform that replaced TV and yes they have algorithms to give you the best matches according to your tastes but everything have been that way throughout media's history. TV, radio, newspapers. Every media since their beginning have been focused on attacking your interests for your attention. It has been always this way but reach was different.
If I were to make a game engine, it would not be able to be addictive due t mysterious powers at work
When I make a game, I tend to avoid making it too addictive, due t obvious ethical reasons
I think vidya games a tha futua
Ethical?...In today's society? yeah that's a nice dream, that ended decades ago, Ethical, Honorable, Loyalty, & Dignity are words that mass corporations do not care about, it's all about money/power, it's all that matters in the business world, & they'll do to those that do their "dirty work" & treat people like cattle to fatten their pockets & get whatever they want out of the consumer. Look at like warranties...what's the longest you see nowadays?...90 days? & limited of course, & every consumer company uses this term " we reserve the right to change these conditions at our discretion" It's a crock of steaming cow dung.
Pay per view model
Rogan after Goguen!!
Its a shame game studios always go south when they get bigger. It's inevitable that a bigger company will care less about the quality and more about marketing to make the customers perceive quality and hype without having to really make a good product.
So, people have no agency over themselves and need to be protected from game makers who prioritize money over anything. Blame tech companies, they should have our best interests in mind, not money. But when there's a global pandemic, it's wrong for the government to step to help protect us because companies will lose money?? I don't understand Joe's thinking at all.
his room is super depressing.
Much, very much to talk about this.
Imagine having your brain blown out by A/B testing...thats a low bar
4:18 wtf so games do that???
Yeah, I totally agree...but I can’t claim any moral high ground because I ordered preordered cyberpunk 2077 like 32 years ago. If they put a warning on that game that it might make me piss ghost pepper juice I’d probably still buy it and that’s a problem. I’m totally an addict.
The fact that everyone is talking about it. At this point if you keep falling down the rabbit hole of algorythm recommendations you diserve it.
Where are the pillows!?
www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/aces/about.html
Wait where the hell this man's pillows. I don't trust somebody with no pillows on the bed. Lol
Easy, games didn't always have shitty DLC, which make the base game shit without, I say ban DLC. Developers made complete games for decades, but they were corrupted by marketers and Corporate greed.
Regarding the game design portion of the discussion: Yes, games from big companies (say World of Warcraft) are designed like he mentioned, created to be addictive. However, many small indie games still have the "quality over quantity" design, more like the Super Mario example he gave. Indie games are made by very few people who have a focused, creative vision for the game, and they bring it to fruition without a huge publisher interfering with the development.
Bruh who even uses Facebook anymore(except for stalking)
Joe, great questions! Fantastic interview
The only ones to call customers, users, are drug dealers and software companies
Tech companies need to quit interjecting their ethics into things. If they cared about being ethical though they can quit trying to make their technology like a drug for some to keep them glued to their screens. They know what's unhealthy (they don't let their kids use their products) and they don't care.
Agreed, I don't see what business tech companies have in enforcing ethics if they are trying to get people hooked to their platform like drugs.
Please have this guest on again...I appreciate this content. We need it. Thank you ❤
We should get royalties on our data...they're taking ownership
Tech company modern day snake oil salesman run by globalists
now that the podcast is moving to Spotify including the video version, is the short clips version gonna be available on Spotify too or would we be able to find it on yt? caus these are my favs
11:11
Hahahahahahahahaah!!! You used ethnical responsibility and Tech companies is the same sentence.
Delete Facebook, not deactivate completely delete it. They don’t deserve to make billions off their clear bias and lies which has caused a divide in our country.
Here comes Joe “I was addicted to Quake once” Rogan
Are you talking about the same Joe Rogan who recently was caught in his underwear talking to Elon Musk (again) and accidentally showing us he had never ever even LOOKED at SpaceX in his lifetime? "Ooooh! These rockets can land? That is soo cool" I thought that Musk mentally collapsed for a few seconds as he realized the very same thing. Time to drastically lower expectations, I guess.
the internet is worst thing ever happened to mankind. no one reads real books aymore. everyone s unhealthy obese, ansd passiing along false information thatsnnot verified
I wouldn't know half the shit I know today without the internet, I have learned many subjects from politics, science/math, computer engineering/programming (my career choice anyways so I had to look up information on hardware and software), etc. And media and books have been known for passing misinformation way before the internet. I have nothing against reading books, they are often are best for quality information and/or interesting stories that are told. The problem is people (as well as government and corporate entities trying to control people for their selfish ends but they are runed by people too), too many people can't handle the internet these days and really should just leave it to those who can mentally/emotionally handle it.
When dampening addictive tendencies, one must also account for standards. You make the tech less attractive. Standards drop. Not tendencies.
There is no way to incentivize tech companies to move away from this model. We either need 1. Government regulation (has not been effective this far) 2. Consumers to limit their spending and block ads I personally already do the second. Adblock on phone and computer, spend $0 supporting this business model by never clicking ad links, instead hiding all ads I see. This is something that enough people would have to do to the point it’s not profitable for advertisers to buy ad space anymore.
Thankfully some developers still make decent 1 player campaigns which do end. Anyone want to tell Joe
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
I had a dream Joe Rogan came out of a rainforest island near the beach where he handed me DMT as he enchanted me in chimp language before my journey
This is kinda dumb conversation. Yes addiction can be a problem but at that same time we choose to do these things by our own free will. This conversation is really just patronising to grown adults who are more than capable of making these decisions for themselves. If it's the wrong decision, then life will give them a boot in the arse and they'll change their lifestyle for the better. It's called maturing and it has to been done through actual experience.
So much This.
7:00 clearly Joe never saw Trekkies
Joe, a video game isn't going to make you eat pizza all week and ignore everything either. Joe has the most closed mindview on video games
so these guys dont know about single player games?? that are ranging from 3-200 experiences??? that is a limited experience not the live service bullshit or all that online gambling stuff, games like GHOST OF TSUSHIMA, GOD OF WAR, SOULS SERIES, SPIDERMAN, SHORT INDIE GAMES???
Cognitive dissonance is strong in Rogan and his ilks, on the one hand, they want liberty and on the other hand, they want to be nannied. No wonder y'all are lost in the US and overtaken by the Asians and Europeans.
Where are advertisers and advertising in this whole discussion ? A good product sells itself..
The model isn't about advertisement, it's about selling the user. All your data is collected and formed into huge datasets for Machine Learning and AI. They sell this data to produce really good AI systems. You are the product in all of these services.
Incredibly important item to cover. Modern addictions that people are oblivious to. Computers, phones. Thank you for exposing this Joe
the Spotify app is the most un-intuitive app ever made
Joe Rogan please never change ur theme music
Joe is a gatekeeper of the establishment. He will not go out on a limb and admit Bill Gates and the tech companies are corrupt and are in back of the COVID-19 scam. He will not admit the Agenda 2030 of the UN. Joe only goes so far but not all the way in admitting the truth. He is a corporate shill.
What is his book called please?
Whats the tech companies are different from any other business like your vlog? Just same other than revolutionary and modern.
Every time you deal with server farms they are bad for the enviornment... So any time you go on the web and aws controls the website... youre basically killing the enviornment... And these farms are data mining everything you type in as well... Humans are doomed.
I mean your basically killing it anyways even if you self-host. Maybe your killing it more or less, idk.
The solution: make illegal for apps to collect data. your screen time, what you listen, what you search , everything !
@Rui exactly the reason why im studing privacy law, i want to get to the bottom of this, its mind boggling the things they can do with ur info and the data they collect... its madness like when u make an instagram account with a gmail thats also used for ur facebook they will crossreference it and send messages to ur facebook friends saying hey this person with ur full name displayed made an instagram account under the name (blank) its fucking baffling
@daboy dudus I think governments will eventually see that they can't allow tech to collect such data and make laws about that. Furthermore, this apps are more Behavioral Modification than social networks. I don't know why posting something or sharing something over a platform is considered "social"... You can do that and still have no friends.
i think moving forward thats whats going to happen u saw it before the mark zuckerberg hearing companies did everything and nobody stopped them, but then after that laws have been put in place where they cant have ur data for more than 2 years and such
"episodes are free", but not available in every country. Why? Coz "spotify podcasts" are not available even if songs - are
Kids spend 100x more time engaged in online social networking than with their own parents. No wonder people's identity is growing to be more socially oriented. Not good in my opinion as young people lose their identity in group-think and fail to think independently.
I don't really follow because online I can find multiple different perspectives on technology, politics, just about any subject. With just two parents, your perspective and window of the world is a lot smaller which means your more likely to conform if your more sheltered (of course the internet isn't the only way of seeing the world, there is always the option of traveling and exploring if one can afford it and is ready to). Regardless, I think kids should be spending time with their parents anyways and not worry about that crap too much and probably shouldn't even use the internet without parental guidance and certainly shouldn't use it too often. But I don't think kids fail to think independently just because of the internet.
QUESTION AUTHORITY DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY
Big Tech owners are pushing people and social culture into a pressurized and politicized tinderbox......they don't seem to understand that the breaking point rapidly approaches. An ANTI-TECH movement is rapidly building. No mind control through media control. They influence all your choices for greed and power politics. SLAVERY ...reject these arrogant and manipulative oligarchs.... Demand paper money. Demand the Gold Standard be reinstated..(any valuable real resource...just not electronic bits in an e-acct that is based on sweet f*ck all) Get a land line and learn how to write....
This whole conversation on video games is so asinine and ignorant it's insane
it's all about discipline and will power joe! weak people will get addicted and spend their life on meaningless games, memes and brainless, unproductive fun while the strong minded people will succeed and achieve immortality, they will be remembered for the music and art they created
Satanist have no moral compass. That is why they communicate in the hidden language of numerology. Check c - Ovid - 19 in a strongs concordance. The end slaughter 9. The tribulation, has it begun? Do this homework, your sole could depend on it. Stand straight up for God, the sheep 9.
easy solution: ADBLOCK and make it illegal to sell our info
they don't sell your info, it's not in their best interest. They use your data to make predictive models that get better and better at keeping you on the app
10:40 ..."episodes of the Joe Rogan Experience are now free on Spotify. Free from Sept 1st to Dec 1st they're going to available everywhere, but after Dec 1st they're only going to be available on Spotify, but they will be free....that's all we're asking, just download Spotify. Ok, Joe, I ain't dumb. How much is Spotify going to cost me? There's nothing in life's that's free. I learnt that from my father, pre-internet days, long time ago
So why are these social tech networks take it upon themselves to use censorship against the President of the United States ?
There are plenty of games that aren’t about being more addictive. What he’s talking about really only applies to GAAS games and massive AAA products. Most teams don’t have access to any of that. For every Anthem there are hundreds of games that were made by a guy or two who just love the medium and just want to share their passion. Or you think that Fromsoft made Bloodborne because there was a chart that said that Lovecraft is big among 18 to 25 year olds? Absolutely not. They just made what they were passionate about.
Pretty much, there are plenty of good games even still being made to this day but they don't get advertised like some of the overpriced, overvalued trash games do.

This like watching a bologna trying to be a jambon.hahhaha
They gamed the Election...watch this, scary stuff. rofree.info/one/video/l5xmZItpmrpvf4I.html
Thank you Joe Rogan... for making me remember I have dominos pizza😂🤣
Please bring Marilyn manson on the show
I for one can’t wait to put a chip in my brain and be connected 24/7 to everything
This is a middle aged man talking about playing games really when do they ever grow up!!!
This is not the same show. Joe sold out. What a chump.
Gta online turned its game into being tedious on purpose with the idea that it will make you pay money or waste countless hours of your time things like that will die off but games being addictively good most gamers are fine with im at the point id be fine to just never leave the house and play games and consume online content for the rest of my life in ready for ready player one levels of vr and a feeding tube lets go
This guy explained it all: rofree.info/one/video/v56JrZ98qbmIg34.html
Im addicted to youtube. How do i stop this train
Just plan to not go on ROfree when you have work or other things going on... I'm kinda addicted to ROfree too... 😅 But then, I also have some sort of control over my addiction though... 😅
Do like me, cancel your cable and go all in
@p m step 1: go to jungle step 2: start killing people and animals step 3: tell people that they wont be killed if they join your tribe step 4: tell them to start killing everyone who isnt in your tribe as well no worries mate you dont have to thank me
Yeh need to stop it to
@Jesper Theis Hansen How tho. There isnt even a youtube tutorial for that.
any mmrpg is signing your life away. or you remain low level trash in that game lol. You could just be a rich bastard that pays for a pre-leveled account rather than experiencing the early gameplay yourself.Anyone that has spent hours farming for experience regrets that choice they made in life lol.
an then you add engagement optimized matchmaking... then the facet of skill you put into the game gets overided by what you are ALLOWED to accomplish in game... Having difficulty adjust mid-game to promote continued use is HORSESHIT. And it becomes an ethical question when you advertise "ranked" gameplay.
I don’t like how every time i get on ROfree there’s a different video available on the home page. That’s why the app is so addicting. It knows what keeps me on.
Ppl have to learn to take ownership. It's becoming the only viable option left. These companies will not do anything that would impact their bottom line
@Ho Lee Fook But the point being that currently, the greatest control one has in the world is over their own decisions.
@Ho Lee Fook their only goal is to be profitable. Ppl can't sit back and wait for them to do the right thing. Not saying the companies aren't at fault. Just doesn't benefit me to blame them
Nah ownership is important but the companies need to held accountable as well.
Funny having ads interrupt this talk about platforms using our attention to sell ads.
That's crzy!
Getting a bit joe rogained out
Expecting profit driven corporations to be ethical is somewhere between naive, and dumb. Not only will they sacrifice ethics for profit, but they can't be trusted to decide what is, or isn't ethical.
Exactly. What's easier? Making huge companies have ethics and do the right thing or take personal responsibility for just yourself and not play video games/go on social media? People are fighting a battle they won't win.
Ethics are an impediment on making money. Company exist for one reason and one reason alone: to make money.
This is golden and ux in university's should use this vid. It is vital in our evolution as consumers and humans as a whole
I thoroughly agree about the old school games love has gone
@Charming Peasant Most of the recent games I have played are Indie games anyways, maybe a few AA/AAA games here and there once in a blue moon.
Yup, almost every major game is now made by the committee, politically correct and sanitized, barely any innovation, if it has shiny graphics and cinematic cutscenes then mainstream critics and normies shovel it with 9's and 10's, almost every open world game feels the same and copy the tired as hell Ubisoft formula, most linear games try to be more like hand holded interactive Hollywood movies than actual games that focus on player agency.
Go lift. Go run. Get laid like it’s 1999! 👌🏼👈🏼Allow no woulda, shoulda, coulda crap. I don’t use ANY social media (other than JRE). My daily average screen time here is 14 minutes. If I really like a guest, I’ll indulge. If not, I’m gone. WHY? THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER, BETTER THINGS TO DO!
I remember a time when tech would create cool new platforms. Now its about ideology and data collection.
Isn't it interesting and ironic that getting rid of your social media makes you feel better despite the fact that social media platforms are built around exploiting the brain chemicals that make us feel better?
Social Media has caused an drastic uptick in Darwin Award winners
It's the bed we made. Capitalism without proper regulation will result in what we are seeing. We cannot expect them to self-regulate. We know that doesn't work. It's time to drop the hammer...
@TheDrewSaga It's my belief that corruption is inevitable, and can only be mitigated. Say you are somehow able to find a set of lawmakers that are completely incorruptible and make perfect laws and never abuse their power. How do you guarantee that in a generation or two they aren't replaced by corrupt ones? Ones that use the now-fully regulated market for their own gains? Voters can be mislead into electing such corrupt officials. That's why people tend to be adverse to a fully government controlled market -- because the government can end up being just as self serving. EDIT: For analogy, just view the governments as big companies that happens to have voter-elected CEOs. When you make that comparison, it becomes immediately clear why people don't want too much government regulation.
@Woodside That's a very good question considering how deep political corruption runs in this country. It would have to be a government entity that regulates them but if they are already too corrupt then I don't know if there is any real way of properly regulating them.
On the other hand, how do we regulate? The last people we would ever want responsible for the regulation would be the ones writing the rules.
The whole country and ideology needs to collapse... Otherwise bye bye humans.
Video games are now pay to win and it's gross how much people will spend to win
The bad thing about ethics is in most cases it’s something suggested not required.
Did you see this clip of Alex Jones making fun of Joe?! Joe gets pissed! rofree.info/one/video/spqmsKSClY6le6g.html 😂 😆
JR, do you think the fact that you've studied martial arts, you have a insight into the "human nature"? I have studied for 40+yrs and then studied psychology in school and it has giving me vision of humanity...sometimes I wish I did not have. The "Event" that is happening now will show humanity's true colors... May God have mercy on us all...
Delete all the social crap, find a hobby and save your sanity.
Ghost of Tsushima is a video game that is not out for our money, and truly in it for the game experience. The individual for SuckerPunch is the highest priority.
Its in it for your time which is a bigger deal
Wanna Be Friends?
Google had a good one: "Don't be evil." They since removed that directive.
I fully expect his hime to have one of those signs written on driftwood sold at craft fairs “All because two people fell in love...” “Live. Laugh. Love”
Where are* this man's pillows?
It's probably a guest a room.

Wow, a video entitled "The Ethical Responsibilities of Tech Companies" is getting throttled -- I'm just seeing a loading spinner. Other, apolitical videos are NOT having this problem.
